History Arts Culture, & Culture

If you love museums, you will love KC!

This is a gorgeous museum. The newly opened Bloch Galleries feature wonderful Impressionistic paintings, by Van Gogh, Picasso, Cezanne, & Monet to name just a few. There's also a comprehensive Chinese collection, and a fine Contemporary art section. Don't miss the Noguchi garden (inside the museum). Enjoy lunch in the Rozelle court, and then be sure to stroll around the outdoor sculpture garden, named after Henry Moore and featuring works by Moore, Roxy Paine, Alexander Calder, and the whimsical shuttlecocks by Claes Oldenburg. Best of all, it's all free!

Another don’t-miss is The National World War I Museum. It is arranged in narrative form, as if WWI soldiers were telling visitors their own war stories through the exhibits. The museum features replicas of trenches, theaters, propaganda posters and guns. What's especially moving is the glass bridge, which spans an abyss of 9,000 poppies, symbolizing the 9 million lives lost during the war. As part of your visit, you can go up to the top of the Liberty Memorial and enjoy an amazing view of the entire city.

Other great museums are The Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, the Negro League Baseball Museum, The National Airline History Museum, Steamboat Arabia Museum & The National Toy and Miniature Museum.
